Welcome!

Hello I’m Sam Manning. I practice acupuncture and Tui Na massage and I’ve been helping people in Oxford to improve their health for over ten years. In that time I have treated many people presenting with a wide range of conditions; muscular-skeletal, mental-emotional, auto-immune, digestive, menstrual, fertility and more. I am a long-standing member of the Acupuncture for Pregnancy and Childbirth Team and for several years I ran a drop-in centre for the homeless and recently housed, where the core of my practice was working with people with mental health issues, and those moving on from addictions.

Fully trained in traditional acupuncture, I practice a combination of TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) and Five Element Acupuncture. I am committed to furthering my knowledge in the fields of acupuncture and Tui Na massage, and I undertake extensive post-graduate training every year. I believe in treating everyone individually and doing all in my power to give them some level of control over their own health.

Acupuncture and good health

Feeling well is a comfortable state! Our bodies function with ease and emotionally we find we can respond to what life brings to us. But this equilibrium can be rocked – perhaps by a virus, emotional upheaval or external lifestyle factors – and the body responds by showing signs and symptoms of distress, illness. Acupuncture encourages the body to re-balance itself, and thus has the capacity to improve, manage, heal and transform your health.

If this all sounds a leap of faith, here’s another approach – Chinese medicine uses a model to look at how our bodies and minds function in relation to the world around us. It’s a very good model! That’s why it has survived for more than 2000 years and is used alongside Western Medicine as part of mainstream healthcare in China today. It is practical and sensible, can better enable us to understand how we work and how to support ourselves in health. I believe we all have a great capacity for change and, with help, may find we can make a difference to conditions that we feel we are stuck with. Witnessing this happen in my clinic is a privilege – and that’s why I do what I do!

Acupuncture helps with…

Many people have acupuncture for a specific condition or symptom, while others find it beneficial to improve their health more generally. Acupuncture provides a practical modern way to improve your health. It is safe, can be used alongside any conventional medicines and also when medication is not recommended, such as in pregnancy. Treatment focuses upon the symptoms you may experience and also their root cause, viewing you as a whole. Many people continue to see me to help keep them maintain their equilibrium once their original condition has become manageable, or cleared.

The British Acupuncture Council publishes fact sheets about individual conditions giving details of studies providing evidence of the effectiveness of acupuncture.

Acupuncture works for…

Acupuncturists are trained to treat people rather than conditions, so please give me a call to discuss your individual case. The World Health Organisation lists over 90 conditions for which acupuncture has been proved effective, through clinical trials. For more infomation, click here.

Acupuncture for fertility, pregnancy and childbirth

I have a young family, and helping other men and women into, and through, this extraordinary time of life is something that I love and value highly. I’ve been involved in the Acupuncture for Childbirth Team, Oxfordshire (ACT) since I qualified, and have extended my training in this specialist area throughout that time. FAQs

Acupuncture – that’s the thing with needles, isn’t it?
Yes, primarily acupuncturists work with needles. But they are as fine as a hair and not nearly as big as injection needles, which may be what you are thinking of.

Do I have to believe in it?
No, absolutely not. It’s almost more fun if you don’t! Acupuncture is used widely to treat race-horses, and I’m pretty sure they don’t believe in it.

Testimonials:

‘I gave birth to a healthy baby girl last Friday. All happened naturally, drug-free and swiftly, in no small part thanks to your treatment and calm demeanour which helped give me the confidence that nature would take its course as intended; no induction, no abruption.’

‘Sam has made a great job of treating my tennis elbow with acupuncture as well as helping other muscular problems with massage’

‘I went to acupuncture as a skeptic – I’m a clinical scientist. I realised that the only way to find out if it was a beneficial intervention or not was to experience it myself. That was 15 years ago and I have had regular treatments ever since. I have enjoyed good health over that time and haven’t had a day off work because of illness since April 2008. I’ve seen a number of acupuncturists and I would recommend Sam as a practitioner for her skill in getting to the root of a problem and elegantly dealing with it. She has a gift for listening and understanding and deciding on a course of action.’

‘Good advice and effective treatment.’
